Joan Barreda, the winner of the second stage, will have to open the way for his rivals. The Spaniard nevertheless hopes to make up lost time in the overall classification. At present, he occupies 10th place, 20 minutes behind the new leader Sam Sunderland. However, he will have to withstand a horde of Husqvarna, KTM and GasGas riders, not forgetting those of the Yamaha team, starting with Adrien Van Beveren, second in the overall classification just 2 minutes behind the leader.
Rui Gonçalves, who took everybody by surprise this morning by climbing into the lead at the first check point with a lead of almost 6’ over stage winner Joan Barreda, has in the end received a 15-minute penalty due to missing waypoints… which explains his surprising early advance!
The day is a good one for Joan Barreda who has just completed the day’s special with the best time. The Spaniard has finished 5’33’’ ahead of Sam Sunderland. Kevin Benavides has reached the finishing line in third place, also with the status of the leading KTM representative, meaning there are three different constructors on the day’s podium!
Sam Sunderland, who was not on the scope at the various time checks, has reached the finish of the special. For the moment, he has the lead over Adrien Van Beveren, Matthias Walkner and Daniel Sanders. However, to discover the outcome of stage two, it will be necessary to await the arrival of Joan Barreda.
